Abstract
Objective : This study aimed to investigate the behavioral¡¤psychological and cognitive characteristics of
early-onset dementia, as well as patients ability to perform activities of daily living, and to systematically
analyze and introduce non-pharmacological interventions.

Methods : Literature related to early-onset dementia was collected through NDSL, RISS, and Google Scholar. We reviewed the articles in order of title, abstract and full text, and tried to show systematically the results after extracting the contents from non-pharmacological intervention methods and characteristics of patients with early-onset dementia.

Results : Types of early-onset dementia include Alzheimer s dementia, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia.
Patients with early-onset dementia are different from senile dementia and are often non-typical. In patients with early-onset dementia, behavioral¡¤psychological and cognitive symptoms, as well as a decreased ability to perform instrumental activities of daily living are noticeable. It was confirmed that various non-pharmacological interventions related to cognitive, physical, and social activity are applied to relieve symptoms.

Conclusion : This paper clearly describes the characteristics of early-onset dementia and non-pharmacological interventions for patients with early-onset dementia. This study is meaningful in that it systematically summarizes the causes, symptoms, and non-pharmacological interventions of early-onset dementia as studies related to early-onset dementia in Korea are scarce. Thus, the results of this study are expected to be helpful not only for hospitals, but also for communities and families dealing with early-onset dementia.
